The project seeks to develop a method of field analysis for the detection of organic cacao through the application of the FT - IR technique.
This project seeks to identify microorganisms with the ability to chelate cadmium and validate their use in cacao, as a mitigation strategy against the accumulation of this heavy metal.
From January 1, 2019 and onwards the EU Regulation No. 488/2014 will regulate the content of Cadmium in cacao by-products. For this reason, the CIC will seek to develop a map of Cadmium content in producing areas. This map will provide the information needed to implement appropriate mitigation strategies.
